Weight Loss Options – Different Methods to Lose Weight

There are several weight loss options that you can choose if you are determined to lose weight. You can choose between doing diet or taking weight loss surgery.

There are hundreds of diet methods that you find at different websites online. There are several factors that you should consider first before doing any diet method:

1.  You should consider your previous diet if you have done any. What did you like and dislike from your previous diet? What worked and what didn’t work for you?

2. Think about your budget. Can you spend some money to do this new diet? How much money you need to allocate every month for your new diet?

3. Do you have any special need? If you have any health problems such as sleep apnea, diabetes or heat disease, it is better for you to take surgery than doing diet.

4. How about your lifestyle and habit? Can you set aside some time to prepare your diet menu? Can you set aside some time after work to do exercise? Is there any belief in your family that prevents you from eating certain foods?

Is It Better To Opt For Weight Loss Surgery?

Weight loss surgery is a weight loss option designed for men who are at least 100 pounds overweight and women who are at least 80 pounds overweight. If you are less overweight but have health related problems such as diabetes and sleep apnea then weight loss surgery is still more viable option.

How Does Weight Loss Surgery Work?

Weight loss surgery works by limiting the amount of foods that you are able to eat. Some operations also limit amount of foods that your stomach can digest.

Generally there are two types of weight loss surgery: restrictive surgeries and malabsorprtive/restrictive surgeries:

-    Restrictive surgeries work by cutting the size of your stomach and as a result slowing down digestion process. The smaller your stomach the less you can eat as a result you will lose weight. However, your stomach after surgery can stretch back depending on various factors. Make sure to follow your doctor instructions closely and attend counseling sessions regularly to prevent such thing from happening.

-    Malabsorptive/restrictive surgeries are invasive procedures that change the way you take food. First, the surgeries will restrict the size of your stomach then remove parts of your digestive tract responsible for calories absorption. This procedure can be harmful to your health as a result the practices have been abandoned in a lot of countries.
Several Weight Loss Surgery Options

There are different approved weight loss surgery options that you may want to take a look:

1.  Adjustable Gastric Banding

Adjustable gastric banding is the less invasive method in weight loss surgery. Inflatable band is used in this procedure to squeeze your stomach into a smaller upper pouch and a larger lower section. The chancel between the two sections will become very small as a result of the surgery. This procedure restricts the amount of foods that you eat.

2. Sleeve Gastrectomy

This is new method in restrictive weight loss surgery in which 75% of your stomach is removed by using laparoscope technique. What remains out of your stomach as a result of the surgery is a narrow tube or sleeve.

3. Biliopancreatic Diversion

This is extreme version of a gastric bypass procedure in which 70% of your stomach is removed and more of the small intestine is bypassed. This procedure is not favored because of the side effects such as dumping syndrome, malnutrition, and ulcers.
